Authorities have identified the man involved in a fatal officer-involved shooting in Los Lunas as Jesus Munoz Duran, 53.
According to New Mexico State Police (NMSP), the incident began as a traffic stop near Sierra Vista Drive and Meadow Lake after Duran reportedly failed to yield to another driver.
During the stop, officers said Duran exited his vehicle and stood by the door. When police issued commands for him to show his hands, he allegedly pulled out a firearm and opened fire on the officers.
Officers returned fire, striking Duran. Authorities say they immediately rendered aid at the scene, but he later died from his injuries.
No officers were injured in the incident.
The shooting remains under active investigation by NMSP, and officials are expected to review the circumstances, including use-of-force procedures and evidence from the scene.
