Authorities in Memphis are investigating a deeply disturbing discovery after human remains believed to belong to three young children were found in a wooded drainage area.
According to the Memphis Police Department, the investigation began on March 8 when officers responded to an anonymous report of a possible human skull. A search that followed the next day led to the discovery of additional remains.
Police Chief Cerelyn “CJ” Davis said canine units helped guide investigators to a nearby drainage pipe, where further examination uncovered what appeared to be another skull. By April 2, search teams had recovered more bones—bringing the total to remains consistent with three children.
The Shelby County Medical Examiner’s Office has determined the remains belong to children estimated to be between 3 and 7 years old. Authorities believe the remains may have been there for several years.
At this time, investigators have not identified the children or determined the cause of death.
Officials are urging the public to come forward with any information that could help identify the victims, emphasizing that someone may recognize missing children who match this case.
“This is heartbreaking and deeply concerning,” Davis said, noting that multiple resources are being used to try to bring answers and closure.
The investigation remains active.
