The death has occurred of Sang Tran, Sabine Lake, Texas. The 58-year-old fisherman was recovered after going missing when he fell overboard while checking crab pots in rough waters.
Search teams recovered a body believed to be Tran on Saturday morning at the southern end of South Levee Road off Pleasure Island. The body was brought closer to the marina to allow law enforcement officers to continue their investigation.
An autopsy has been ordered to formally identify the body and determine the exact cause of death.
Authorities confirmed that Tran had gone missing on Wednesday after falling from his boat in rough waves. His vessel was later discovered beached on rocks, still in gear, with damage to the motor.
Multiple agencies, including the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Parks & Wildlife, the U.S. Coast Guard, and Port Arthur Police and Fire Departments, were involved in the search and recovery operation.
His family has been notified, and the community is mourning the tragic loss.
