The cycling community is mourning the loss of Cristian Camilo Muñoz, who died at the age of 30 following complications from a crash.
According to the Colombian Cycling Federation, Muñoz initially suffered a knee injury during the Tour du Jura in France, where he required stitches. He later traveled to Spain for the Vuelta Asturias, but his condition worsened.
He was hospitalized in Valladolid after developing a severe infection linked to the wound. Despite medical efforts, Muñoz was placed in an induced coma and passed away. Doctors confirmed that a bacterial infection was the cause of death.
Tributes have poured in from across the cycling world. Fellow Colombian rider Nairo Quintana dedicated a stage victory to him, while former teammates Tadej Pogačar and Jasper Philipsen shared messages honoring his memory.
Muñoz previously rode for UAE Team Emirates, where he was known as a talented and respected rider. His passing has left a deep impact on teammates, fans, and the global cycling community.
